Olive Oil Beauty Tips

For many centuries, people in the Mediterranean basin have used olive oil as a ingredient for their skin care and hair lotions. Why risking by using cosmetic products of questionable standards (some of them are using oils derived from petroleum or even dead birds!), while you can maintain a healthy skin and hair by using an all-natural safe alternative?

Keep reading to find out why olive oil* should become one of your favorite beauty aids.

Cuticles and Nails
Want to keep those cuticles from looking overgrown and ragged? Are your nails brittle or dry? Dryness is the number one reason for getting hangnails, and when your cuticles are ragged, dried and peeling, it’s a sign that you need to moisturise them. Soak your nails for 20-30 minutes in olive oil reguralry and you will enjoy healthy well groomed cuticles and strong nails.

Hands
Olive oil can be used as a hand moisturizer. Smooth it on hands before going to bed and put on white cotton gloves for softer morning skin.

Lips
To soothe, smooth and totally improve your tender lips, dab a little olive oil on them.

Hair
Olive oil helps repair split ends, heals dandruff, and makes your hair shiny, silky, and lustrous. Massage a few tablespoons of olive oil into scalp and hair. Cover hair with a plastic bathing cap and leave on for 30 minutes or more, then shampoo as usual.

Body
Olive oil can be applied on any part of your body that needs softening and moisturizing. You can also add a few tablespoons to your bath, along with your favorite essential oil, to soothe and nourish your skin.

Olive oil can also be used as an ingredient for safer alternatives to household hazardous products, like furniture polish, metal polish, pest control products, etc. There are numerous sites on the Internet with formulas for lotions, potions, concoctions and remedies you can make at home. Your ideas/suggestions for alternative uses of olive oil are always welcomed.

* Olive oil used for body care should be of higher quality only, preferably organic extra virgin olive oil. For all other uses, less expernsive olive oils are just fine.
